Tropical Storm Andrea, 5 p.m. advisory

OUTLOOK: Now with sustained winds of 65 mph, Andrea is on the verge of hitting the northwest Florida coast near Steinhatchee, its squally conditions already spreading far inland. The system is projected to angle over Georgia and the Carolinas over the next couple of days.

WHAT FLORIDA CAN EXPECT: In South Florida, the system is expected to continue generating scattered showers, storms and breezy conditions this evening and Friday. More sun is expected over the weekend.

Andrea is suspected of spawning three tornadoes this morning. At 3:20 a.m., one touched down in Belle Glade, damaging power lines. At 6:45 a.m., one touched down in The Acreage and injured one person. At 8:10 a.m., one touched down in west Broward County near U.S. 27 and Miami, but caused no damage. A tornado watch has been extended until 10 p.m.

Otherwise, Andrea could produce up to 10 inches of rain and a storm surge of 5 feet along its path, threatening to cause flooding along the northwest Florida coast.

FLORIDA ALERTS: A tropical storm warning has been posted for much of Florida’s west coast, from Boca Grande to Indian Pass. A tropical storm warning also has been issued for the East Coast, from Flagler Beach to Charles Light, Va.
